Harbour Island

You haven’t truly lived until you’ve resided where warm toasty summers are the norm, where award-winning beaches stretch for miles in the distance uniting a multi teal, translucent ocean with pink powdery sand. Only 3.5 miles long and a few short minutes off the shoreline of Eleuthera is Harbour Island, The Bahamas.

Home to about 1900 residents and dripping with the truest sense of seclusion, Harbour Island is solely accessible by boat with its nearest airport on the Island of Eleuthera and a short commute thereto by boat making it all the more desirable. While many of its visitors arrive by way of their own private boats, there are also a good bunch that travels by plane with regular flights stemming through Atlanta, Ft Lauderdale, and Miami.

What to do

Life here is draped with picket fences and cottage styled homes of stark similarities, boutique hotels, and intimate restaurants that are a master at appealing to your personal requests as you make them known, thereby attracting visitors in abundance. The largest of the Queen Conch in the Caribbean can be found right here in variations of fried, browned stewed or uncooked, an all-time favorite heavily infused with tropical juices fruits and vegetables and where better to experience sushi than on an island where its catch is lifted from ocean to plate paired with the best wines and potent Caribbean beverages.

There are many charters available at cost for the fishermen, snorkeled, or the adventurer with a picnic or tour of the island in mind. Sample the island’s core during its annual Pineapple Fest, which offers common island eats with heavily infused with pineapple variants calling easily thousands of locals from its neighboring islands and visitors to its front door. Consistent with island life, most visitors are found buzzing about the streets in golf carts with friendly honks in passing and unlike many islands, the experiences here are surprisingly inexpensive with an off the chart quality that calls for a premium spend.

Harbour Island’s wealth is in commercial farming of the world’s juiciest pineapples and is known as The Pineapple Headquarters of the World; exporting into the farthest most regions of the world and a popular treat for both locals and visitors alike. Dive into the island of tropical affluence.
