As other developments fell by the wayside or slowed during and after the global crisis of 2008, Albany has been credited for continuing steadily, building out into what is now one of The Bahamas’ most desirable addresses. Baha Mar is a mega-resort like no other. The $3.5 billion development, due to open later this year, is targeted at an adult market looking to combine access to one of Nassau’s most beautiful beaches with modern luxury, access to the Caribbean’s largest casino, a multitude of fine dining experiences, and a Bahamian aesthetic, carefully crafted under the direction of one of The Bahamas most acclaimed artists, John Cox. Baha Mar is offering a select few the chance to own at the resort, within its Rosewood, SLS Lux and Grand Hyatt hotels.
- Grand Isle, Great Exuma.
Grand Isle Resort and Spa is one of the most established resort communities in the stunning Exuma chain of islands. Each property has an oceanfront or golf course view and comes with its own private balcony or patio. Furnishing are plush and high-end. Surrounding the resort are Exuma’s famous powdery white sand beaches, making kayaking, kite-surfing, snorkeling or swimming a constant temptation. The Exuma islands are known to be among the best in The Bahamas for sportsfishing and golfing is available at a nearby championship course designed by Greg Norman. French Leave is located in the quaint community of Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, a historic and desirable settlement on an equally storied island. Where other developments boast access to a slew of amenities, French Leave touts serenity and natural wonder. Amenities are limited to the 1648 Bar and Grille (1648 being the year that Governor’s Harbour was founded), a spa and fitness centre and an events pavillion. This small and elegant resort development is about the simple, laid back lifestyle, with architecture that harks back to an earlier time.
- Treasure Cay Resort, Abaco.
Undoutedly one of the greatest assets of this resort is its access to one of the world’s top beaches. Treasure Cay beach is one of those you must see to believe. The resort itself is one of the Bahamas oldest, giving it well-established sense of community. The entire property has been developed around a spacious marina, giving many owners the chance to pull their boat up to their home. Golf, water sports, fishing, nature tours and tennis are all on offer. This development is by far the most casual of all of those described here, with a family-friendly vibe that is as popular among European visitors as it is with the South Florida boating crowd.
