On March 20th, 2020, the Government of The Bahamas implemented the first line of defense against the COVID-19 virus. The Emergency Powers (COVID 19) Regulations, 2020 outlined a series of safety and health measures for the general public. Now, in our sixth week of ‘stay at home’ and ‘work from home’ protocols with further restrictions, our Advisors are making the most of their time at home with family and keeping in touch virtually with friends and clients. Dining-In and entertainment are at new levels of appreciation, and staying creative is helping everyone to enjoy the limits of home confinement.
Here is some insight into what our Advisors and their families are doing to keep their bellies satisfied and their minds engaged.
PHILLIP KEMP, ANDREWS GROUP
Favorite Meal: Whatever my housekeeper fixes, but a good salmon and Greek salad, it’s her recipe.
Favorite Movie(s): I am an action and comedy kind of person, comedy to keep your sense of humor.
CLAIRE THACKRAY
Favorite Meal: I’ve been batch cooking for variety and to minimize trips to the store. One of my favorites is an adaptation of a bolognese sauce with lots of finely chopped vegetables, which freezes really well and then makes for excellent “lazy day” meals as I call them.
COLIN LIGHTBOURN
Favorite Meal: My wife is very fortunate. I am such a great cook…that is a joke, it’s the opposite! Last night we had incredible chili, and I am very grateful for that. I can throw just about anything on the grill.
Favorite Book: Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall. An incredible geopolitical book that goes through all the superpowers and how geography has shaped and is shaping their influence in the world.
SILVINA ANDREWS, ANDREWS GROUP
Favorite Meal: My family loves good food. We spent a fortune on a bag of stone crab. Had a meal of crab with lemon butter dipping sauce and diner-style hashbrown potatoes (fresh green beans not worthy of talking about). We also baked a large chicken and used it for a couple of different meals like chicken enchiladas with Spanish rice and/or black beans. Also, grilled flank steak with arugula and shaven parmesan vinaigrette.
Favorite Movie: The Prestige on Netflix. Set back in time, very clever plot.
ALEX JUPP
Favorite Meal: Anything sweet. Chocolate is my favorite. Other than that, I have a favorite go to when I want to prepare something for dinner. It doesn’t have a name, so I call it Vegan Slam Bam. Why? Because I am mostly Vegan, I can only eat certain things, and this is the fastest dish for me to make that I really like, I also make a batch that lasts for days as well so I don’t have to worry about cooking daily. It consists of spinach, zucchini, squash, carrots, mushrooms and beans (you can add tomatoes if you like, sometimes I do or even tofu for extra protein). I use tomato sauce with salt and garlic, these are applied based on the taste that you feel suits you. I simmer the vegetables on low and allow the juices to flow then season accordingly. I am sure that this doesn’t sound like the greatest recipe that you’ve ever heard of, but it tastes great to me, and my wife likes it, so it’s an easy option when it’s my time to cook.
Favorite Movie: The last movie that I watched was Parasite and is about this poor Family that eventually found a way to all work for the same wealthy family offering different services. Eventually, disaster struck as they did it in a distasteful way. It actually won awards at the Oscars; it made me curious to check it out. I don’t watch TV much, though. Most of the time, I read news articles and watch documentaries.
NATASHA VYTHOULKAS
Favorite Meal: Anything I don’t have to cook myself.
Favorite Book: War and peace because it is my favorite and it is lengthy and will take a while to
read.
